Should individual countries have the right to interfere with the affairs of another country?-Shogo Moro, Erina Kon

Image
The principle of non-intervention in the domestic affairs of another nation is enacted by the Charter of the United Nations, and globally accepted. However, should individual countries truly have no right to interfere with the affairs of another country?      It is widely believed that every country should have the right to decide their policies independently. Interference often leads to one-sided demands and unreasonable dominance, which contradict the benefit of a country which receives them. The history of colonization obviously reveals the existence of conflicts and exploitation as a result of outside intervention. Additionally, Russian invasion of Ukraine indicates that interference in the affairs of another country results in a terrible situation even today. On the other hand, although interference in domestic affairs induces many problems like this, the principle of non-intervention sometimes causes even worse influences.      Sup...

Should women be promoted to top jobs in business and politics before men?

Image
Gender inequality is a major problem in business and politics. Eespecially, only 8% of management posts is occupied by women in Japan in 2021. It has been required for us to achieve gender equality by the government and companies. Men-dominated society and company are not acceptable according to our values and also noncompetitive because the lack of diversity should inhibit them from giving valuable and useful services. Is enough being done to resolve the problem, however?      Not a few people think that men are more competent even now. It is thought that Women should do household chores and look after their children instead of working and managing and that they wouldn't work as much and productively as men. Additionally, it has been thought that women quit their job after their marriage and childbirth while men continue to work and it's better for companies to get people who work longer in companies for the benefit of the companies. Besides, we may n...

Something I Have Learned Along The Way- kenta Nishida

Image
Waking up early in the morning is a good way to start a new day. This is the lesson I have learned along the way. When I was a junior high school student, I often stayed up late at night, and I was sleeping during the class. However, after becoming a university student, I started to become an early bird in order to lead a healthier life. It took a long time to change my routine, but ,in the end, I realized how wonderful it is to wake up early. I can do a lot of things! Doing yoga, running, reading, watching movies, cooking etc. In addition, I can concentrate on everything in the morning, because no sound interrupts me. It is quite silent! I love spending my own time early in the morning, and I’d like to keep my routine as much as possible after joining a company next month.

Do students have to pay their own college fees? (Kana Shimamoto and Taisei Hamaguchi)

Image
Have you ever thought about student money? In Japan, the population is declining year by year, resulting in an aging society with fewer children. Fewer people paying taxes and higher social security costs put pressure on the national budget, necessitating cost cutting. So, is it no longer necessary for the government to subsidize college tuition? Should students pay for college? Firstly, In Japan, the age of adulthood will be lowered from 20 to 18 this year. Students become adults when they enter college and must take responsibility for their own. In addition, students will be able to take out loans from the age of 18 accordingly. Therefore, the environment is conducive for students to pay their own college tuition.  Second, Japanese universities are not that expensive compared to other countries. According to data reported to the U.S. News in an annual survey, the average cost of tuition and fees for the 2021-2022 school year is $43,775 at private colleges, $28,238 for out-of-stat...

Agree or disagree? To interfere with the affairs of another country - Minori Sato, Kanon Sunayama

Image
These days, Western countries have started economical sanctions on Russia and Belarus because of the Ukraine-Russia War. Is this a good way to solve these issues? First of all, do Individual countries have the right to interfere with the affairs of another country? Some people agree with this, others say no.  First, If countries get involved in the affairs of other countries, especially in the time of war, the affairs will prolong and there is a risk of making the situation even worse. As a result, civilians might suffer for a long time. Additionally, even if the affairs of one country get complicated, for example, the case of North Korea, we don’t know how to be engaged. Sometimes independent decisions may increase the risks and make the situations more dangerous. However, the affairs of another country strongly affect ours. Doing nothing is not the right thing to do for the sake of our country and our peaceful life.  In a globalized world, we are related to each other. For e...

Everybody in the world should have access to a library (Nanami Higashi, Jiayue CHEN)

Image
We cannot say people around the world have access to a library nowadays. Is it necessary for everyone in the world to get access to it?  Some developing countries may not need a library, because they’d like to spend money on something more essential for their lives, such as food, housing, and infrastructure. So, access to a library can be a low priority in underdeveloped countries. Additionally, there are people who cannot read in the world. According to research, the global adult illiteracy rate (aged 15 years and older) was 14 percent in 2019, which has remained almost unchanged since 2015. If we create a library and get access to books, it’ll be useless if we don’t have literacy. As a result, constructing a library can cause the waste of resources. However, we can also find some merits for countries and people I mentioned above, and merits for us as well.    Regardless of countries, age, or abilities, people have rights to have access to knowledge as they like. ...

Women should be promoted to top jobs in business and politics before men-Hiroaki. Hiroyuki, Yue

Image
The number of women who have top jobs is still low even though many women got  jobs. It is said that women should be promoted to top jobs.  In fact in the C-suite in the US, women comprised 21 percent in January 2020 . In the EU’s largest publicly listed companies in 2020, 19.3 percent of executives and 7.9 percent of CEOs were women, according to Catalyst, a non-profit group. So Do society have to promote women to top jobs?  Who is responsible for it? There are some disagreements. Firstly, If a man and a woman have the same ability and have put the same effort into the work, it is unequal for the man to get promoted after the woman. And it will cause reverse discrimination. Additionally,  It will generate the stigma that women could be thought they have top jobs just because of gender. What’s more, for the company, If a woman is promoted just because of she is a woman, it will lower the motivation of men in organizations. However, given that there are...
