Agree or disagree? To interfere with the affairs of another country - Minori Sato, Kanon Sunayama
These days, Western countries have started economical sanctions on Russia and Belarus because of the Ukraine-Russia War. Is this a good way to solve these issues? First of all, do Individual countries have the right to interfere with the affairs of another country? Some people agree with this, others say no.
First, If countries get involved in the affairs of other countries, especially in the time of war, the affairs will prolong and there is a risk of making the situation even worse. As a result, civilians might suffer for a long time. Additionally, even if the affairs of one country get complicated, for example, the case of North Korea, we don’t know how to be engaged. Sometimes independent decisions may increase the risks and make the situations more dangerous.
However, the affairs of another country strongly affect ours. Doing nothing is not the right thing to do for the sake of our country and our peaceful life.
In a globalized world, we are related to each other. For example, without coal from other countries, Japan cannot generate electricity for now. In the pandemic, we can still stay connected via the Internet. We live in an era where SNS can be used to call out to the world, and demonstrations are also being organized through calls on SNS.
In addition to this, those who want to come to Japan and to know more about Japanese culture are increasing. In an emergency, maintaining the supply chain is essential. We have to interfere with the affairs and achieve peacekeeping.
Furthermore, think about the human rights issues. Even if it’s an internal affair of one country, they are also a matter of concern to the international community and the United Nations. Apartheid in South Africa, for example, had negatively affected the lives of all South African people. Without the help of the United Nations and other countries, this issue could not be solved.
The feeling that we escape the wars, wish peace for everyone, and protect human rights are not hypocrisy.
I'm glad to know your opinion about this trendy and important topic!
ReplyDeleteToday, we are connected deeply each other and what is happening in other countries is not someone else's business.
You think we should interfere with other countries on order for us to protect the safety of international society and our own coutries. It can be said to be realistic or utilitarianism. I think it matters which type of interference you assume. We should avoid to use millitary power even if it's to beat despotic governments. But it's difficult to interfere with a coutry and make changes about it without armed forcees. So I think we should not interfere if we only have to use weapons and kill people for any reasons.
ReplyDeleteThis is a difficult issue that is being talked about a lot right now. The United Nations has a collective security system, which stipulates that the Security Council certifies a breach of the peace and organizes a UN force to respond to it. Individual countries are prohibited from using force for any purpose other than self-defense. However, now that the collective security system is not functioning. Perhaps we need to think about how to respond beyond the existing framework.
