Jiayue Chen

I was born in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and then move to Shanghai since 3 years old. My grand mother was born in Shanghai and she is one of the people who responded to the call of the country dedicating herself to the construction of Xinjiang when she was 18 years old. The decision she made and the policy, sent-down youth, indeed has influenced my family a lot. This is also the reason why I am interested in public policy, I want to know more about the mechanism behind these policies and figure out how to evaluate a policy as an efficient policy. Recently, I am quite interested in development economics, but since I am too lazy, I decided to start learning it from next semester.

My hobby is playing video games, listening to music ,traveling and eating delicious food. My favorite food is hotpot and octopus dumplings(takoyaki). I have ate octopus dumplings once before in Shanghai and the taste is totally different from that in Japan. So I was pretty surprised by the taste when I ate that in Japan ,meanwhile I became a big fan of octopus dumplings (Japanese flavor).

Additionally, I also enjoy the moment lying on the bed, watching television at the same time playing on my phone, the most important thing is I do not have to think anything at that time! Even though I always feel  guilty the next day.

  1. I also like to relax and spend time doing what comes up to my mind, like playing games, watching movies and reading books. Then, I also regret it, so I really empathize with you in that you feel guilty afterwards. These days, I try not to care about the amount of wasted time and regard such a period of time as necessary for my life...

  2. I understood well why you are interested in policy making. It seems complicated to evaluate it.

  3. That's why you are interested in public policy. It makes sense. Thanks for sharing.
I once tried hotpot but unfortunately, it was too spicy for me.
I strongly agree with you. Just watching my smartphone or playing games made me relax but at the same time, I feel regret after that.

  4. It's true the policy making really influences everyone and I think your research is very interesting.
And which video games do you play? Could you recommend something you like to me :)?

  5. Hi Jiayue, public policy is a fascinating area of study. The thing is that policy makers can have a hugely positive impact on the world, because good policies can make a world of difference, fostering things such as development, sustainability and wellbeing. On the flip side ill-conceived policies can have a devastating effect. So to cut a long story short, the world needs more capable policy experts. Perhaps you can be one of them.

  6. I was astonished to read the reason you are interested in public policy, because people usually focuses on the interests which come from their own. But your choice is totally admireble. I like your too honest writing. I strongly agree that you need time when you are thinking nothing or, to be exact, when you can not think, and you need what forces you to concnntrate on itself, which doesn't leave your brain for thinking. So, I like dish-washing or wiping out the windows to reflesh my brain and clean up my thought.
