Shogo Moro
I’m a university freshman. I was born and live in Kanagawa located in the south of Tokyo. I’ve been abroad only once. I went to Australia as a homestay student for two weeks in high school. I really enjoyed spending time with kind Australians and experiencing sceneries and customs different from those of Japan. However, it was too short for me to get used to another culture, so I want to study abroad for a longer time in university.
In my free time, I spend time reading books ranging various genres from mystery to fantasy. In particular, I like Kemono no Souja, which is called “The Beast Player” in the English version, the best. I’ll be happy if you tell me recommended books. I also like to go sightseeing, but a long trip is difficult due to the pandemic. Since I like seeing historical buildings and beautiful nature, it’s a pity I haven’t been able to visit Kyoto. These days I’m really looking forward to traveling where I haven’t been.
As for my academic interest, I like physics, especially cosmology. However, there should be many fields I don’t know, so I haven’t decided which department to choose yet.
I've been to Australia as a homestay student too. I visited Sydney at that time. Which city did you visit?
ReplyDeleteI like fantasy stories as well. I recommend you one book. The title is "Percy Jackson & the Olympians", which is a fantasy novel written by American author Rick Riordan. It was fun and you can find a lot of things about Greek mythology.
I visited Cairns, which is located in the northeast of Australia. It was winter there, but it was so hot that I was able to enjoy swimming.
DeleteThank you very much for your recommendation! I've wanted to know more about mythology and tried reading "Nihonshoki", which includes the mythology of the creation of Japan. I will surely read it.
I have been to Australia as well! I remember the amazing nature they have.
ReplyDeleteI remember the beautiful nature, too. I enjoyed wandering in a forest and catching crayfish, zarigani in Japanese, in a stream with my host family. In addition, I visited an island. The ocean around it was crystal clear and I can't forget the beauty.
DeleteBy the way, I also spend much time with a small host brother and sister. I like playing with children very much because they always laugh whatever I do, so it was also a lot of fun.
Are you planning to study abroad in the future?
ReplyDeleteYes, but I haven't decided it in detail. After choosing my major, I will look for a university that has strongness in it.
DeleteI like your picture. I also have been to Owakudani before and hakone is a really good place to have fun and relax because there are so many hot springs.
ReplyDeleteI like this picture, too. Owakudani is beautiful and such a scene cannot be seen widely even in Japan. Hakone has many places to visit, so I didn't get bored regardless of the fact that I've visited there many times.
DeleteI love reading books too! I recommend you to read "The Wind is Blowing Strongly(kaze ga tsuyoku fuite iru)".This novel narrates a weak athletic club in a university, which consists of merely ten members, and their dream to finish running the “Hakone” road relay.
ReplyDeleteTo tell the truth, I have almost no experience of reading books in a genre that impresses readers and makes them cry. I'll try your recommended book, which will provide me with new experience. Thank you for your recommendation!
DeleteI've also lived in Kanagawa once in my childhood. I would like to recommend you some of my favorite mysteries, "The Labours of Hercules" written by Agatha Christie and "The Long Goodbye" written by Raymond Chandler. ( Maybe you've already read them.)
ReplyDeleteOnce I read a book by Agatha Christie and found it very a lot of fun, but I was not able to read other works due to lack of time and other interesting books. So, I will definitely read the two books when I come to feel like reading mysteries. By the way, my sister has been into mysteries for a long time and I feel a little tired of her telling me about mysteries many times.
DeleteI sometimes visit Kanagawa prefecture, because there are a lot of wonderful places to visit! I often visit Enoshima Island, Syonan area since I can enjoy the picturesque ocean view! Hakone is also such a nice place that we can enjoy a lot of hot springs. I am actually planning to visit 秋保温泉 in 仙台 next weekend.
ReplyDeleteYou mentioned that you are interested in visiting Kyoto, which makes me happy. I am from Shiga, but my high school is located in Kyoto, so I am familiar with some famous places in Kyoto. I think Kiyomizu-Temple is one of the nice places which you should visit if ever you can go to Kyoto!
I hope you can find some fields which attract you this year. Enjoy your study!
It's definitely true that Kanagawa has quite a few places to visit. Especially in the past, I would often visit Enoshima Island to eat a rice bowl topped with seafood with my family. We have a favorite restaurant there.
DeleteI visited Shiga many times because my grandparents' house was there, but I have never been to the westward from Shiga. I'll definitely visit Kyoto and Kiyomizu Temple someday.
In addition, thank you for your kind comments!
Hi Shogo I am also partial to historical buildings and the beauty of the natural world. Interestingly, there is nowhere like Kyoto to combine the two since Kyoto's greatest historical buildings are almost inevitably set in a beautiful natural setting. In Kyoto, architecture meets landscape architecture to form a subtle and magnificent synthesis.
ReplyDeleteDavid :-)
Thank you for your comment. As I read your comment, I become more interested in visiting Kyoto!
DeleteI also like historical buildings and reading books! The book you recommended Kemono no Souja sounds really fascinating. I will read that in my leisure time.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your blog , there are so many books recommended by other classmates, I will also check these :)
I like Kemono no Souja because the view of the world is fascinating, but not so unrealistic. You should enjoy it.
DeletePhysics is very interesting to me too. you have to decide which departments and majors you will take in a few months I think. so you need to think what you want to study. but you have time. you can think of it enough. And if you want to change your major even after you have decided so, you can do it of course. Anyway, You should know and experience a lot.
