Shokei Takayama
I’m Japanese, I was born in Japan and I’m
locked in Japan still. I’m a student of the University of Tokyo, majoring in
physics. I live alone in a simple apartment in Tokyo.
I’m interested in physics, which has a
range of research areas to be studied. One of those is astronomy. Astronomy is
trying to reveal what is dark matter, which seems to account for over 80% of
the matter in the universe but it has never been observed directly. Well known
black hole is a point where matter is so tightly compacted and can capture
anything (even light) by its huge gravity, but it’s different from dark matter.
I’m a Buddhist, so I used to fold my hands in prayer at a family Buddhist altar in the mornings when I lived in my parents’ home. I like reading books, novels, biographies, academics whatever. However, the necessity of contributing to academic development(not just studying and absorbing) gets bigger and bigger these days to me as one of members of the universities. The people always inspire me who are serious at anything, or thoughtful and considerate, and especially Kiwis after 15 March 2019 have been impressive to me.
This is the first time I heard about black matter. Why are you interested in Physics? What do you find interesting about it?
ReplyDeleteI think physics is a very interesting and important discipline. Maybe the most important one. Actually my favorite subject at high school is physics though I chose to learn Japanese and Economics when I entered to undergraduate university lol.
ReplyDeleteHave you watched a American drama called 【The Big Bang Theory】? The main characters there are all majored in physics and is very funny. recommend it ~
It's cool that you have studied astronomy! I remember that when I was a child, I was really into the reference books on the universe.
ReplyDeleteI was quite surprised to see that you major in physics because I really hate physics...but I think astronomy , which you mentioned above, is such a wonderful field that you can encounter something all of the people have never known.
ReplyDeleteI actually went to the Buddhism school. My junior&high school was Rakunan in Kyoto, and I had to pray once in a month. I am not a Buddhist but I was impressed by a lot of insightful talks from monks.
I rarely read books but it seems that you can enjoy books, which amazed me! I think reading books broadens our horizons so hopefully I'd like to read books thoroughly in the future.
My brother-in-law did his Phd in theoretical physics and he sometimes talks about space with me. "Dark matter' indeed seems rather mysterious. I have to say though that its complexity is no surprise to me. Design is everywhere to be found in the universe and it points to a designer.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, thanks so much for your kind words about Kiwis. It is encouraging to me that you have found us inspiring.
David :-)
"locked-in Japan". What an interesting expression! Do you want to get out of Japan and study abroad or something?
ReplyDeleteI have heard that there are still many unknowns in the universe and dark matter is part of it.
I also like physics, and I like astronomy the best, too! (yet I haven't decided my major). When I learning physics, I face many ideas difficult to understand or apply. I especially like the moment when I come to fully understand something as I think about it again and again.
ReplyDeleteOh! The universe! Recently i have watched an American show named "big bang". It's pretty funny and the chief actor in this show is a whiz kid majoring in physics! I admire the person who are studying physics even more after I watched that show.
