Something I have Learned Along the Way - Shokei Takayama
Russia started to invade Ukraine a few days ago. Many people were killed by missiles or bombs or rifles. Ukraine President Zelensky sighned national mobilization law and Ukraine has been protecting their coutry against Russia. First I wanted to know why Russian President Putin decided to do it and why Russian people could not stop it. Secondly I was thiniking how Ukrainian fight back against the violation of their land and the use of miltary power. Diplomatic settlements have been demanded instead of millitary power after ww2. We, especially Japan, have developed the laws or constitutions or democracy so as not to allow totalitarianism to let loose its armed force. However, I have not seriously thought how we should fight back against invasions with millitary power. I came up with an idea that we run away even though we lose our land because I don't want to lose my life neither does everyone and I don't want to attack to kill an enemy coutry's citizens. That was my answer. But Zelensly and Ukraninan did not stop resist against the overwhelming power even when NATO and UK refused to set up a no-fly zone the US rejected the offer to send fighter jets to Ukraine. The president and Ukranians are still in severe danger. Many Ukraninans died. However, the resistance may be significant for Ukranian land and their lovers and their children. We are sometimes happy to risk our life for our land, our ancesters, children. It's easier said then done.
You write about the dilemma regarding whether to flee or fight with insight and empathy. It is a dilemma I hope I never have to face. May all those who are striving to bring peace to Ukraine be blessed. :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your thoughts on the Russia-Ukraine war. If the war broke out around me, I would run away to a safe place just like you. Maybe I'm a selfish person because I don't have any patriotic feelings.
