Something I Have Learned Along the Way - Yue Xu
Through this corona virus pandemic,
I have learned that when facing something you can’t change no matter how you struggle,
the choice you did before really matters.
Although the Japanese government
has lifted entry restrictions since March 2022, it had banned nearly all new
foreign arrivals for more than one year and if you consider the time of the tight border
restrictions last time it lasted a total of more than two years
during pandemic. As can be seen from here, the Japanese government did open its
borders temporarily from October 2020 to January 2021, but it still was a very
short period.
And for me, making
the choice to apply for the visa in advance and enter Japan in November 2020 was
maybe the most correct choice I have ever made these years. Thanks for it, I can live in Tokyo, make new friends,
and do the job hunting successfully.
However,
almost the third of my classmates who decided to enter Japan in March 2021, one
month before the university would start, couldn’t enter Japan and still in
China now and will enter Japan in April 2022 finally. And as you can guess, they
have already finished their first year in the University of Tokyo in China.
So, as you can see, It's difficult for us to fight against the policies set by the government or the trend of the times. For things
that we can’t control, we should make the right and quick decision when there
is still opportunity left for you.
Your lesson can be applied for many things. I have a tendency to think deeply although I know doing so leads to nothing. To spare time and avoid making the situation worse, we should make a decision as soon as we get enough information.
ReplyDeleteYes, as they say "strike when the iron is hot." I am glad that your courageous decision has opened the way for you to be living in Japan while studying at Todai & looking for work in the country. :-)
ReplyDeleteThis corona pandemic have taught us quite a lot of things, right? and yes, your notice about making decision is one of them. Generally, making a decision for something is tough, anxious task. but even so, we should do it as fast as possible so that we don't miss the opportunity...
ReplyDeleteSome members in the laboratory say that they have to do only simulations or paper researching because they cannot come to Japan... It is disappointing that they are deprived of chances to study...
ReplyDeleteActually, I cannot understand why Japanese government is so strict with students who come from foreign countries. The restriction is too severe, isn't it? I hope your friends enjoy the campus life at University of Tokyo.
