Something I Have Learned Along the Way -- David Woodfield

A life lesson I have learned is not to hold grudges, or in other words to forgive others who have hurt or wronged me. Holding on to resentment not only prevents you from improving your relationships with others, but it also hurts you inside. It makes you feel dissatisfied and unhappy.

I have been inspired by the words of Jesus to have this attitude. In the Bible, we read that Peter, one of Jesus's disciples, came to him and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?”  Jesus's answer was unforgettable. He answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy times seven."

  1. I feel the same way. It is true that bad deeds stand out, but I came to realize that everyone has something good. Additionally, complaining about others just harms my feeling. These days I make it a rule to focus on positive sides.
Thank you for your class! I really enjoyed it! You provided us with a lot of opportunities to talk with our classmates, which definitely improved my English skills. Also, it was fun to interact with you and classmates from various backgrounds in breakout rooms and this blog.

  2. Holding grudges keeps you stuck in negative feelings, which leads you to nothing.
Revenge cannot make you feel better just makes you miserable.
    I strongly agree with that.

  3. Most of the time, resentment yields a negative result. In worst case, it could lead to ending a relationship. Of course it's necessary to get angry sometimes, but it's more important to understand that people will make mistakes. I was also impressed by Jesus's answer.

  4. I was deeply touched with the expression "Not to hold grudges." Keeping angry at someone will cause me to look at or look for only the bad sides of the person, which will have negative effects on me inside, and actually I have experienced that kind of way of thinking. I agree that we should forgive other people and look at the good side of other people.

  5. I am really impressed with the words of Jesus you shared with us. Forgiving others despite of their rude behavior is important to stay positive and fix the relationship with other people. I have a tendency to hold on to resentment, so I'd like to change myself!
